General Information
The topics of the Bachelor's and Master's theses offered reflect our research focus. They originate, for example, from the following fields:
- Innovative concepts for mobility and logistics
- Closed-loops supply chain management
- Integrating renewable energies into electricity supply
- Dynamic optimization and heuristic planning in the service sector
Our Bachelor's and Master's theses are aimed at students of business administration, business education and other related courses of study.
Knowledge in the field of Operations Research is required. This includes an understanding of mathematical optimization models and the associated solution methods. The Master's thesis usually includes the implementation of the problem in a software. This is optional in Bachelor's theses. Nevertheless, Bachelor's theses require a small mathematical example of use.
Bachelor Theses
Topic assignment
The allocation of topics takes place at regular dates. Please check the current information on our website.
The next topic allocation will take place on Tuesday, 2023/04/04, at 02:00 pm (online). To register, please send us an e-mail at christian.mueller.9 (at) uni-due.de. Please describe briefly (approx. 1000 characters) why you would like to write your thesis at our chair (special interest in our research area, in operations research, in the current lectures etc.).
Topics include location planning, deployment planning, acquisition management in remanufacturing, e-mobility and bike sharing.
Colloquium
Students are given the opportunity to present their current state and interim results of their thesis (after approx. one month) to other graduates and the staff of the chair at a colloquium. The colloquia are part of the final thesis. Thus, all students who write their final thesis at the chair are obliged to participate.
Formalia
Please refer to the MSM guidelines for the preparation of seminar papers and theses.
Master Theses
Topic assignment (1st meeting)
We generally offer master theses to topics like revenue management, dynamic pricing, bike and car sharing, energy storages, and stochastic optimization. Most of our thesis descriptions are only available in German, but here, we present theses which we prefer in English. Please have a look at the German version of this website to see all descriptions. If you are interested in one of the topics, please contact the corresponding research assistant and make an appointment for a detailed discussion.
Special English topics:
In addition, we are always open to suggestions for topics from students. We would be happy to clarify these possibilities in a preliminary discussion. This also includes practical theses in cooperation with a company. Please contact a research associate of the chair via email. Please attach your curriculum vitae and grade overview in addition to the suggested topic.
Exposé (2nd meeting)
An exposé must be submitted to the supervisor before registering the start of the final thesis, approximately 3-4 weeks after the first topic discussion. This exposé contains a concrete introduction of the research topic, the objectives and the structure as well as a theses schedule. After a second meeting, the work is registered and the processing time begins..
Colloquium
Students are given the opportunity to present their current state and interim results (6 weeks after registration) to other students writing their theses and staff members of the chair during an examination colloquium. The colloquia are part of the final thesis. All students who write their final thesis at this chair are therefore obliged to participate.
Formalia
Please refer to the MSM guidelines for the preparation of seminar papers and theses.
