Information regarding theses
Liebe Studierende,
bitte senden Sie Ihre Fragen und Anmerkungen von Ihrer aktuellen "@stud.uni-due.de" E-Mail-Adresse. Andernfalls kann eine Bearbeitung der Mail leider nicht gewährleistet werden!
General Information
The topics of the Bachelor's and Master's theses offered reflect our research focus. They originate, for example, from the following fields:
- Innovative concepts for mobility and logistics
- Closed-loops supply chain management
- Integrating renewable energies into electricity supply
- Dynamic optimization and heuristic planning in the service sector
Our Bachelor's and Master's theses are aimed at students of business administration, business education and other related courses of study.
Knowledge in the field of Operations Research is required. This includes an understanding of mathematical optimization models and the associated solution methods. The Master's thesis usually includes the implementation of the problem in a software. This is optional in Bachelor's theses. Nevertheless, Bachelor's theses require a small mathematical example of use.

Topic assignment
The allocation of topics takes place at regular dates. Please check the current information on our website.
The next topic allocation will take place on Monday, 2024/07/10, at 02:00 pm (online). To register, please send us an e-mail at davina.hartmann (at) uni-due.de. Please describe briefly (approx. 1000 characters) why you would like to write your thesis at our chair (special interest in our research area, in operations research, in the current lectures etc.).
Topics include location planning, deployment planning, acquisition management in remanufacturing, e-mobility and bike sharing.
Colloquium
Students are given the opportunity to present their current state and interim results of their thesis (after approx. one month) to other graduates and the staff of the chair at a colloquium. The colloquia are part of the final thesis. Thus, all students who write their final thesis at the chair are obliged to participate.
Formalia
Please refer to the MSM guidelines for the preparation of seminar papers and theses.
Master Theses
opic Assignment (1st Meeting)
Topics of master theses should broadly align with the research focuses listed above. Specifically, we supervise topics in the areas of:
- Capacity Control
- Customer Choice Behavior in Revenue Management
- Strategic Revenue Management
- Flexible Products in Revenue Management
- Optimization of Order Picking Systems
If you are interested in any of these areas, please contact so (at) uni-due.de to arrange an appointment for detailed topic development (by the end of July 2024, after which the central assignment procedure for theses at MSM will apply, link below). In your email, please include your topic suggestion, your CV, and your grade transcript. We are also generally open to topic suggestions from students. We would be happy to discuss in a preliminary meeting whether supervision by our chair is possible, including practice-oriented theses in cooperation with a company.
Exposé (2nd Meeting)
Before registering your thesis, approximately 3-4 weeks after the first topic discussion, you must submit an exposé to your supervisor. This exposé should include a concrete description of the research topic to be addressed, the objective, the structure, and a timeline. After a second meeting, the thesis will be registered, and the processing time will begin.
Examination Colloquium
Students have the opportunity to present their progress and interim results (approximately 6 weeks after registration) to other graduates and department staff as part of an examination colloquium. The colloquia are a component of the thesis. Therefore, participation is mandatory for all students writing their thesis at this department.
Formalities
Please refer to the guidelines for writing seminar papers and theses.
Central Assignment
Please note that starting from the winter semester 24/25, a central assignment system will be implemented. More information can be found here.
